Comitis calls for Ajax return

John Comitis wants the return of Ajax Cape Town to the Premiership as he laments the loss of the Cape Derby.

Cape Town City are relative newcomers to the Premier Soccer League after their formation in 2016.

They have however, seen success in winng the 2016 Telkom Knockout and 2018 MTN 8.

The Urban Warriors have, meanwhile, been competing in the National First Division for the past two seasons.

But in their short time in the same league together, the two clubs built up a healthy rivalry.

Comitis, who formerly ran Ajax as chief executive and honorary chairman, told the Daily Sun: "It looks like Ajax will be coming back. They are leading the NFD at the moment.

"In the last Cape Derby, we had 18 000 spectators. It was a record number for local football in Cape Town.

"But we still need to find out about the future of Ajax."

After 23 games, Ajax, under the guise of Andries Ulderink, lead the NFD ahead of second-placed Moroka Swallows by five points.
