Mashumba: Larsen is the right coach to take City forward
Charlton Mashumba has hailed coach Clinton Larsen for his ability to get the best out of the Polokwane City players.
Larsen joined Rise and Shine in December, having taken over from Zlatko Krmpotic.
He found the club in a precarious position near the foot of the PSL but managed to engineer a couple of positive results.
City beat Cape Town City and Black Leopards ahead of the enforced break as a result of the coronavirus.
They remain relegation contenders though, in 14th place on the league standings, just three points from the bottom, with six games to play.
And Mashumba, who was part of the Polokwane side that secured fifth place in the PSL last season, knows just how much better off the club would have been, had Larsen arrived earlier in the season.
Mashumba told the Daily Sun: I like Larsen very much. Larsen is a good coach who knows how to get the best out of players. He is a very fair and straight forward coach who wants us to give our best all the time.
"Since he took over the team, we have been playing good football and I think we were unlucky in matches we lost or drew.
"I also think if he took over the team earlier we could have been talking a different story regarding the position we are in. I think we could have been fighting for a top-eight position like last season."
In his 10 games in charge of City, Larsen has recorded six defeats, three wins and a draw.
