Mashego: Players can't fail after working with Da Gama

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mashego has lauded the coaching abilities of Owen Da Gama, claiming a player can't help but succeed after working with him.

Mashego, who also played for Orlando Pirates, is now retired from football but has looked back fondly on the time he worked with Da Gama at the now defunct Platinum Stars, which was called Silver Stars at the time.

"There's no way you'd play for Owen da Gama's team and fail to be a success when you move on," Mashego told Far Post.

Tim Sukazi, who was a football agent when Mashego was discovered, recommended Mashego to Da Gama when he was still playing in Bushbuckridge, and the current Highlands Park tactician has been credited with shaping Mashego into the player he became.

"I was to drive to Venda, but I then thought to go via Bushbuckridge to see this talent Tim had told me about," Da Gama told Far Post.

"If he visits a certain place and identifies a good player, he would never leave without the player," Mashego said about Da Gama.

Mashego went on to win four PSL titles in his illustrious career.
