Polokwane edge Amazulu in five-goal thriller

Polokwane returned to the wining trail in their first match of 2019 after coming out on top against AmaZulu in a five-goal thriller at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Bongile Booi and Walter Musona before Bonginkosi Ntuli pulled one back for AmaZulu on 28 minutes. Musona scored again in first-half injury time, only for Siyethemba Mnguni to reduce the deficit six minutes after the half-time interval. The scoreline remain unchanged from that point onwards, though, as Polokwane held on to claim a 3-2 win.

Rise and Shine came flying out of the traps and claimed the lead after just one minute of play, Bongile Booi latching onto a pass from Jabulani Maluleke before firing into the bottom-right corner from the centre of the box.

And they would go on to double their advantage in the 17th minute as Musona angled a low shot into the left corner after being teed up by Rodney Ramagalela.

However, AmaZulu recovered from that early setback well and eventually clawed their way back into contention on 28 minutes, Ntuli combining nicely with Phumlani Gumede before slotting the ball in the bottom-right corner.

After a brief lull in play, the match sprang back to life in the first minute of injury time as Musona bagged his second of the afternoon.

AmaZulu refused to let their heads drop, and their hard work and endeavour paid off as they hit back early in the second half, Mnguni netting the crucial goal after being setup by Emiliano Tade.

Despite their best efforts, however, Usuthu were unable to draw level in the remaining half hour as Polokwane held firm to claim the all the spoils.
