Middendorp - 'Dax should have won MOTM'
Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes Andriamirado 'Dax' Andrianarimanana should have won the man-of-the-match award instead of Black Leopards' Lifa Hlongwane after the sides played to a 1-1 draw at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
'Dax' scored his maiden goal for the Soweto giants since arriving at the beginning of the season with a sweetly struck effort from just inside the box in the 10th minute.
And Middendorp was left baffled by the decision to give the man-of-the-match award to Leopards goalscorer Hlongwane instead.
"I like Lifa Hlongwane. He's definitely a good player. But I think 'Dax' should have been man-of-the-match. Phenomenal, good game. I think he made bone-breaking tackles one-on-one," Middendorp told Supersport TV.
Meanwhile, the German tactician praised his side's 'commitment' compared to the listless performance in the Baroka defeat but said their sharpness in the final third ultimately let them down.
"i'm very happy with the commitment of our guys," said the 60-year-old. "Totally different to our performance against Baroka. But the finer details in terms of finishing was a little bit off."
Meanwhile, Middendorp defended his decision to make seven changes to the starting lineup.
"I believe it's very important to try out new combinations. We saw a good impact from Kabelo Mahlasela. Some players are in a comfort zone and that's why I made the changes. We probably need two or three more signings, but otherwise I have huge confidence in the squad," added Middendorp.
