Mosimane bemoans defensive mistakes

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane lamented his side's defensive errors after the 2-1 CAF Champions League semi-final first-leg defeat to Wydad Casablanca on Friday evening.

The Brazilians failed to clear their lines, allowing Salaheddine Saidi a second invitation to find the back of the net to break the deadlock for the Moroccans.

And Mosimane was particularly critical of this mistake, but said he was satisfied with the performance despite a couple of defensive errors here and there.

“We made a lot of mistakes at the back, but you have to understand that everyone is stressed because it’s the Caf Champions League semifinals and everyone wants to go to the finals," Mosimane told the club's official website.

"I believe we should have cleared the ball in the first goal.

“While I’m not entirely happy with the result because we lost 2-1, I’m happy with the performance from the team bacause it’s always a difficult place for us here in Morocco but we improve."

Experienced defender Anele Ngcongca pulled a goal back for Masandawana in the 42nd minute. But a minute in to the second half, Downs were behind once again when Badi Aouk pounced on sloppy goalkeeping to give the three-time champions a slender lead heading in to the crucial second-leg. And the 54-year-old is under no illusions as to how important the away goal could be.

“It was the first time I see Wydad so stressed at the back, it’s also because we scored the important away goal," added Mosimane.
