Lekgwathi - 'Lorch must stay dedicated and respectful'

Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi believes Absa Premiership player of the season Thembinkosi Lorch can still improve a lot as long as his feet are kept grounded.

Lorch also came away with the Player's Player of the Season award after an impressive season in which he tormented opposition defences alike.

And Lekgwathi believes the management in place at Pirates, including club chairman Irvin Khoza and manager Milutin Sredojevic, will ensure Lorch does not get carried away by the individual accolades.

"Lorch was unbelievable last season in almost every tournament as he was also nominated in the Telkom Knockout competition, he even got a Bafana Bafana call-up," Lekgwathi told KickOff.

"My wish is to see him grow further and be consistent, and I believe that will happen because the club is in good hands. Even the Chairman will have one-on-one meetings to guide him.

"I hope he will listen to every positive advice from the Chairman, coaches and senior players, he can only grow further if he stays dedicated and respectful to the game."

The former Pirates captain says the hard work of the team done by all involved at the club is starting to pay dividends and believes if they continue on their upward trajectory, they will dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns as Absa Premiership champions.

"The team has changed, the coaching team has done well for us, there's so many exciting players within the setup. We must give credit to the current leaders. What happened in the past season must motivate them.

"It happened to us under coach [Ruud] Krol and we bounced back with a double treble. Pirates have a history of bouncing back. Again I would like to give credit to the whole team," added Lekgwathi.
