Kekana's focus on trophies, not personal accolades

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana says winning trophies is more important than achieving personal accolades.

Kekana lost out on the Absa Premiership Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season awards to Thembinkosi Lorch, while receiving the Midfielder of the Season award - which would have been a mere consolation for the Brazilians' skipper.

However, Kekana is not fazed and wants to 'win trophies more than anything'.

"I would be selfish if I start to look in that way [of missing out winning the Player of the Season the past few years] because when I play football it's to try to win trophies and that's what I'm happy about now that we won the league," Kekana told KickOff.

"This is my sixth league title to be honest and something I must be very proud of because not many players reach that milestone. For me I just want celebrate the victory that we won the league and this is something the team wanted because we have now won the ninth league title.

"Personal awards are nice but I want to see my team winning trophies more than anything."
