Mngqithi: Unacceptable not to win these cup competitions

Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi feels it is "unacceptable" that the Tshwane club do not win more cup competitions in South Africa football.

Sundowns are the two-time defending PSL champions - they have won the league title four times in the last six seasons - but domestic cup trophies continue to avoid them.

Masadawana last won the Telkom Knockout in 2015 while the MTN8 trophy continues to elude coach Pitso Mosimane.

The Brazilians can put that record right this campaign as they prepare for the Telkom Knockout semifinal against Golden Arrows this weekend.

Mngqithi told reporters: "For a team like Sundowns, it is unacceptable not to win these cup competitions.

"In as much as we have won the Telkom Knockout once but if you look at the number of years that we have been here, we can say maybe we deserve to have won it twice or thrice.

"It is very difficult to know but at times we are just unlucky.

"Last year we played against Cape Town City in the TKO and we conceded a goal that we should have not conceded and we were knocked out and nobody talks about that."

Sundowns' Telkom Knockout last four clash against Abafana Bes'thende will be played at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.
