Kaizer Chiefs v Maritzburg United
Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record over Maritzburg United when the sides meet in a Telkom Knockout semi-final at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The match gets underway at 15h00.
Chiefs have not lost to the Team of Choice in ten matches over a four-year period that includes eight wins and two draws. Amakhosi are unbeaten in eight matches in a spell that includes impressive victories over Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates which has seen them consolidate their position at the top of the table.
But Maritzburg are on a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions themselves since a 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on September 21. With their impressive recent run of results, Eric Tinkler's side have lifted themselves off the foot of the table up to eighth position.
Ernst Middendorp's side have a had a tough run to the final, needing penalty shootouts to overcome Cape Town City and Pirates. Meanwhile, Maritzburg also scraped through on spot-kicks on both occasions against Bidvest Wits and Highlands Park.
Chiefs have not won a major trophy since the 2014/2015 season when Stuart Baxter guided them to the Absa Premiership title but now find themselves within a real chance of a double, although Sundowns might have something to say about that.
The Glamour Boys received a boost with news on Friday morning that club captain Itumeleng Khune and star playmaker Kearyn Baccus were back in full training and in contention for a starting spot for the crucial do-or-die cup encounter.
Of hindrance to Maritzburg has been their lack of firepower up front as they have managed to find the back of the net just seven times in 10 league encounters this season. On-loan Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie is still looking for his first goal in Team of Choice colours and has done little so far to ease the side's obvious goalscoring problems.
Chiefs claimed a 1-0 victory the last time the sides met in league action back in March, with Bernard Parker getting the goal that day.
