Cardoso: We're playing against the whole of the PSL

Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso believes the fact that the Amakhosi are the team neutrals love to see lose will galvanise the Glamour Boys ahead of their Telkom Knockout semi-final encounter with Maritzburg United at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs have lost just once all season and sit comfortably on top of the Absa Premiership standings and are favourites to progress to the Telkom Knockout final.

Maritzburg will no doubt have the support of the rest of the country as they look to inflict just a second defeat of the season on the Amakhosi and Cardoso understands the animosity is something that comes with the territory of playing for South Africa's most high-profile club.

"I was saying yesterday, when it comes to Sunday, we're not just playing against Maritzburg; we're playing against the whole of the PSL, because I'm sure every team is going to be wanting Maritzburg to win," The 31-year-old centre-back told KickOff.

"So, it's going to be a tough encounter and we can't take our foot off the pedal. We've been in a good space, but Maritzburg are a good side with very good players.

"They've got guys like Siyanda Xulu, Jeremy Brockie, Daylon Claasen – all very high-profile players, so it's not going to be an easy game but, if we keep doing what we've been doing, I think we'll go into the final."

And Cardoso says the Glamour Boys are in a good headspace as they look to give themselves a sniff of sliverware for the first time in four years.

"We're one step away from the final, and we want to be in the final, so it's another chance to win silverware, which is something we haven't brought to the club for quite some time," he acknowledged.

"I think we're in a positive mood and you can see the football we've been playing has been winning us games; we've only lost one game so far, so hopefully we can continue that run."
