Mekoa won't be retained by Maritzburg

Deolin Mekoa will begin the search for a new Premier Soccer League club after Maritzburg United reportedly opted against renewing the winger's contract.

The 26-year-old joined the Team of Choice in 2014, but has spent the past six months on loan with Ajax Cape Town in the GladAfrica Championship.

Mekoa's agent Glyn Binkin explained that Maritzburg were not interested in retaining the former Bafana Bafana player, although he may head back to Ajax if they secure promotion to the PSL.

Binkin told KickOff: "He's contracted to Ajax till the end of the season and then he's free.

"Maritzburg didn't exercise the option to keep him. We'll have to see, it's still the middle of the season, and hopefully Ajax get promoted and he can stay there. But we'll have to see."

Justice Figuareido and Yusuf Jappie are two more players set to follow Mekoa and Siyanda Xulu out of the Maritzburg exit door.

Figuareido is currently on loan at Mbombela United while Jappie struggled to cement a place in head coach Eric Tinkler's side this season.
