Williams not bitter about not winning personal accolades
SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams says he is not bitter when he doesn't win individual awards for his performances.
Williams enjoyed some rare personal joy when he picked up the Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season gong at the recent Premiership awards ceremony at the Durban International Convention Centre.
It appears he was awarded the prestigious prize after managing the most cleansheets in 30 league appearances in 2018/19 for Matsatsantsa.
It is the 27 year old's first personal accolade since 2011 when prior to that he won two Young Player of the Season crowns.
With that said, some were surprised that Mamelodi Sundowns stalwart Denis Onyango did not get awarded the gong.
Williams told reporters: "Yes, it's been a long time [coming], but I don't really [worry about the award], as long as the team is doing well then, I'll be happy.
"If we can lift a cup then I'm happy. And for the past two or three years, we've won a lot of cups, but I wasn't nominated [for the goalkeeper award] but I didn't have any negative feelings, so...
"I've played about seven or eight years professionally now, and I've only won Man of the Match about four times, which is not something negative, but it shows my team is doing well.
"As SuperSport, we've done well in recent years and these personal accolades are nice, but it's also not everything."
