Celtic's sponsorship deal at risk due to pandemic
Bloemfontein Celtic's main sponsorship deal appears to have hit trouble due to the economic impact the COVID-19 lockdown has had.
Free State-born businessman Lebo Mokoena came to Celtic's rescue in June when he decided to sponsor the club, which effectively would keep them in Bloemfontein as it also dissuaded TS Galaxy boss Tim Sukazi from attempting to purchase their PSL status.
However, the coronavirus pandemic has impacted most business sectors and Mokoena admits it is therefore difficult to complete the deal.
"It's difficult to secure a deal now, Covid is killing business, but we will make an announcement when it's due," Mokoena told KickOff.
"I will not leave Bloemfontein Celtic, my heart is already green and white so I will push to help my people."
Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco remains optimistic that a deal will be completed in the near future despite the setback.
"We will make an announcement once everything is done, we are still negotiating," Konco said. "As soon as it's done, the club will communicate with the public."
