Larsen approves of extra subs

Polokwane City coach Clinton Larsen has welcomed the introduction of five substitutes for the remaining games in the 2019/20 Absa Premiership campaign.

Rise and Shine resume their league season against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday 15 August.

Having been out of action for over four months, as a result of the coronavirus, returning players are not expected to be match fit.

City only started training last month, leaving them little time to test, assess and re-condition their squad.

Speaking to the Sowetan, Larsen said the extra personnel could only be a good thing.

He said: "We are talking about two extra subs because the players don't have that much fitness that they usually have.

"So, common sense must prevail; you know FIFA have done their research that's why they have come up with these plans to help teams.

"For me, I think it is some measures which have been put in place to help teams to acclimatise with a lack of preparation.

"We are going to see across the games certain teams are going to be struggling with cramps late in the game. That's going to be normal. It is just the nature of what we are going through at the moment, a very unusual way of training."
