Bucs open up some daylight to Sundowns

Orlando Pirates moved three points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Premiership standings with a 2-0 win over Black Leopards at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

After a strong start to the match, the Buccaneers opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Amigo Memela and continued to dominate proceedings but only managed to put the result beyond doubt in the 80th minute when Thembinkosi Lorch made it 2-0.

Leopards head coach Dylan Kerr spoke positively about his side's chances before the match. Calling on his charges to respond positively to their defeat to Polokwane City last time out.

He would have been devasted with what he saw from his side in the opening exchanges as they were completely dominated by their hosts with Musa Nyatama and Munetsi both missing glaring chances to break the deadlock.

All the visitors could do to halt the Bucs momentum was to get physical and this came back to bite them in the 23rd minute when Memela hit a superb free kick to make it 1-0.

Justin Shonga then wasted yet another brilliant chance to loud shouts of frustration from the home crowd. Their side should have been at least four up at this stage.

Thankfully for Pirates, though, Leopards were not able to put together much going forward. Their first shot on target in the whole game came almost 10 minutes into the second half.

Their was an audible release of tension in the 80th minute when Lorch caught Rotshidzwa Muleka in no-man's land with a looping header to double the hosts advantage and put the result beyond any doubt.
