Match abandoned: Bloem Celtic v Cape Town City
The ABSA Premiership clash between Bloemfontein Celtic and Cape Town City was abandoned during the first half on Sunday.
The moderate crowd at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein only saw just over 20 minutes of action before officials evacuated the players and match referees for their own safety after a pitch invasion.
Early on, it was clear Cape Town City were the more organised team, pressing deep into the Celtic half. Defenders Mzwanele Mahashe and Amour Tignyemb were called on early to snuff chances.
The first clear chance came from City’s Bradley Ralani in the 16th minute, but his effort would just fly over the crossbar.
Unfortunately, that was the last bit action supporters saw as several unruly fans invaded the pitch, forcing security to intervene. There were clashes in the stands and the police were called in, leaving officials with no choice but to abandon the match.
