Baroka boost survival hopes
Baroka FC took a huge step towards ensuring their Premiership future thanks to a dramatic, late Tshidiso Patjie goal which handed them a 1-0 win over AmaZulu on Saturday.
While Baroka were chasing a victory in order to stave away relegation, AmaZulu also began the match with an outside chance of breaking into a lucrative top eight spot before the end of the season.
This meant the match was packed with action as both sides attacked seemingly without care, which created an exciting spectacle for spectators even though only one goal was scored.
Credit should be given to both managers for throwing caution to the wind when it would have been just as tempting to shut up shop and play for a draw.
The home side should have taken the lead in the first half, around the half hour mark, but Bonginkosi Makume sent his low shot skidding across the face of goal and disappointingly wide.
Siyabonga Mbatha was one of the star players on the day and, but for him, things could have been a whole lot worse for AmaZulu.
However, he was unable to keep it all out and he was eventually beaten in the 85th minute when Tshidiso Patjie broke through to get one-on-one with the goalkeeper before rounding him expertly and finishing into the open net to hand Baroka a vitally important 1-0 win.
