Maritzburg United 3-1 SuperSport United

Maritzburg United kept their survival hopes alive on Saturday as Judas Moseamedi scored twice in the second half to inspire the Team of Choice to a 3-1 victory over SuperSport United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Mohau Mokate fired the hosts in front after just four minutes but despite dominating proceedings, Maritzburg were unable to add to their advantage in the first half. Aubrey Modiba scored early in the second half to put SuperSport back on level terms, only for Moseamedi to net twice in the final stages of the contest.

With their Premiership status on the line, Maritzburg made a perfect start to the encounter , claiming the lead after just four minutes of play as Mohau Mokate slotted home from Fortune Makaringe's inviting cross.

The Team of Choice very nearly added a second goal just two minutes later but Ronwen Williams was alert to the danger, making a brilliant save to keep SuperSport in the contest.

Williams was again called into action in the 11th minute, making another great save to deny Makaringe.

However, he almost saw all his good work go to wasted in the 34th minute after spilling the ball in his penalty area. However, he somehow escaped unscathed as Yannick Zakri failed to hit the target after pouncing on the loose ball.

Maritzburg continued to apply the pressure and Zakri was again at the heart of it, forcing another save from Williams in the 36th minute.

SuperSport eventually created a chance of their own in the stroke of half-time, but Bradley Grobler's tame shot was cleared with ease by Richard Ofori in the Maritzburg goal.

The hosts had one last chance to add a second goal in the injury time, but Allan Kateregga was unable to direct his header on target from Ndlovu's cross.

Having shown very little in the way of attacking threat in the first half, SuperSport came flying out of the traps after the break, determined to create more chances.

They got the breakthrough they were looking for after just three minutes of play, Aubrey Modiba finding the back of the net with a shot from the edge of the box that had too much power for Ofori to keep out.

SuperSport continued to play at a high tempo and created another good chance on 62 minutes, but Evans Rusike fired just wide of the mark.

Maritzburg continued to pose a threat at the opposite end of the pitch, however, with Kateregga again forcing Williams into action, before Zakri saw his goal-bound shot blocked by Clayton Daniels.

They finally got the breakthrough they were looking for in the 73rd minute, Judas Moseamedi slotting home from Makaringe's superb cross to put his side back in front.

And, any hopes of a late SuperSport comeback were squashed in injury time as Moseamedi popped up again to convert in the box, following yet another wonderful Makaringe cross.
