Baroka FC 1 - 1 Maritzburg United

Maritzburg United played to a 1-1 draw away to Baroka FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium that guarantees that the Team of Choice will be involved in the Absa Premiership relegation playoffs.

The point was enough for Bakgaga to avoid relegation and means the Limpopo club will play another season in the PSL.

The visitors, who started at the day bottom of the table, took the lead through Fortune Makaringe in the 20th minute but were pegged back in the second half as Mduduzi Mdantsane equalised for the hosts after 65 minutes played.

The Team of Choice started the game like a house on fire and went in front when a corner from Allan Kateregga caused chaos in the Baroka box and Makaringe was on hand to tap the ball into the net.

Eric Tinkler's side fully deserved that goal and they took their advantage into the half-time interval.

Baroka showed more urgency after the break and duly equalised when Mdantsane calmly hit his shot from inside the penalty area past Maritzburg keeper Richard Ofori.

Both teams went for the win, knowing their dire situation at the bottom of the table, but it was Baroka who had the best chance when, with five minutes to play, Ofori's quick reflexes kept out substitute Collins Makgaka.

The teams had to settle for a share of the spoils with Maritzburg now needing to navigate the playoffs against Royal Eagles and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, who came second and third in the National First Division respectively.

Baroka ended 14th on the log but will reflect on a succesful campaign which saw them win their first piece of silverware in the top-flight when they beat Orlando Pirates to lift the Telkom Knockout earlier in the season.
