Chippa United 1-0 AmaZulu

Ruzaigh Gamildien's second-half goal proved decisive as Chippa United boosted their survival prospects with a 1-0 win against AmaZulu in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

The first half proved to be a drab affair, with goalscoring chances at a premium and both teams seemingly content to sit back and wait for an opportunity to break on the counter.

And, despite both sides enjoying their fair share of possession, the first half would end in stalemate with the scores still locked at 0-0.

Thankfully, there was a marked improvement after the break, thanks in no small part to Chippa's Gamildien, who opened the scoring after firing home just three minutes into the second half.

AmaZulu hit back with a chance of their own in the 53rd minute, Sphesihle Maduna seeing his goalbound effort kept out by Veli Mothwa in the Chippa United goal.

Throwing caution to the wind, the visitors continued to bomb forward as they went in search of an equaliser.

Bongi Ntuli very nearly got the breakthrough they were looking for in the 62nd minute as Mothwa was again called into action, this time denying what looked to be a certain goal.

Usuthu kept plugging away at the Chippa defence as the second half drew to a close, but they were unable to find the all-important breakthrough.

They created one last noteworthy chance with eight minutes remaining on the clock as Siyethemba Sithebe latched onto a neat pass from substitute Bayanda Shangase before firing just wide of the target.

And the visitors were made to endure a frustrating few minutes as the Chilli Boys comfortably saw out the remainder of the encounter to secure a valuable three points in their quest to beat the drop.
