Bloemfontein Celtic escaped with a 3-2 penalty shootout victory over TS Sporting in the quarter-final of the Nedbank Cup at Kanyamazane Stadium on Sunday.

Siwelele join Baroka, Bidvest Wits and Sundowns in the last four of the 'Cup of Dreams'.

In the 24th minute, Sporting went on the attack and Mbulelo Wagaba fired a first-time effort over the crossbar.

Celtic almost took the lead in the 42nd minute when Letsoalo went on a mazy run but he scuffed his left-footed effort wide of the right-hand post.

Four minutes after half-time, Phunya Sele Sele came close to breaking the deadlock once again when Victor Letsoalo was at the centre of the action when he curled an effort towards the bottom right-hand corner but it was well saved by Mlungisi Maranti in the Sporting goal.

Celtic finally took the lead in the 54th minute when Sera Matobeng broke clear down the left-hand side courtesy of a beautiful through ball and got to the byline before squaring the ball back in to the box for Letsoalo to apply the simple finish.

Decide Chauke came close on the hour mark for the hosts after going on a brilliant run but his shot was wide of the right-hand upright in the end.

Sporting never gave up, however, and equalised in the 78th minute with their persistence paying off. A free-kick was swung in to the area with centre-back Chico Muchanga inadvertently getting the touch that saw the ball go in the back of the net.

The teams could not be separated after ninety minutes and thus the game went to extra-time. Celtic were making lives difficult for themselves and it went from bad to worse when they gave away a penalty shortly before half-time of extra-time.

Celtic goalkeeper Sipho Chaine was the guilty partner as he brought down Katlego Mojela in the box. Chauke stepped up but the penalty was saved by Chaine, who made amends for giving away the spot-kick.

The match went to penalties, where Celtic prevailed with Sporting goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke missing the final spot-kick to send the GladAfrica Championship outfit crashing out of the competition.
