Micho backs Sundowns to balance Champions League and PSL
Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic has backed Mamelodi Sundowns to handle the fixture congestion which they may face as a result of their CAF Champions League campaign.
Sredojevic's Orlando Pirates have been Sundowns' closest challengers for the league title this season. However, Pitso Mosimane's side eventually won the race.
The Brazilians were the only South African club to qualify for this year's Champions League group stage, but Micho is not counting on that giving Pirates the upper hand in next season's Premiership.
"I have the highest degree of respect for Sundowns. I believe that Sundowns being in the Champions League will not have positive impact on us or any other team," he told SowetanLive.
"Sundowns are a very competitive team and they are now used to playing in the Champions League."
Both teams will be in contention for Africa's biggest club footballing prize next term. However, the Buccaneers coach has suggested the Soweto giants have some work to do if they are to match Downs' continental achievements.
"They have pushed their benchmark very high. For us to reach their level and to outmuscle them will take a lot of effort," the Serbian added.
