As Christian Saile Basomboli begins his journey with Kaizer Chiefs, the Congolese forward can take comfort in knowing that he has a wealth of experience to draw upon.

The 22-year-old was officially unveiled as a Chiefs player after signing a three-and-a-half-year contract from Zambian side Nchanga Rangers FC. Basomboli is only the second Congolese player to ever play for Chiefs in the PSL era, following in the footsteps of Kabamba Musasa and Emeka Mamale.

One man who will be a valuable source of advice for Basomboli is Bunene Ngaduane, a former Congolese striker who made a name for himself with Qwaqwa Stars in the 90s. "From what I have gathered, he is a striker and from what I have seen of Chiefs, they are having problems upfront in putting the ball in the net, and that is what he has been employed to do," Ngaduane told KickOff in an interview.

Ngaduane emphasized the importance of Basomboli staying focused on his goals and not getting distracted by the many distractions that come with playing for a big club like Chiefs. "He must not be distracted by too many of the good things that he will see around Johannesburg but seek to keep to what brought him here," he said.

"Chiefs will provide him with the stage to put his name out there and so he should grab it with both hands and put it to good use," Ngaduane added. He also expressed his hope that Basomboli will be able to end the struggles that Chiefs has been facing in front of the goal.

"It is unfortunate that as former players, we tend not to be given a chance in coming close to these boys and making them aware of the space that they are entering," Ngaduane said.

"However, as a Congolese myself, I hope the guy does well. It has been a long time since we had a Congolese who was effective at a big club," he added.
