Gianni Stensness opened the scoring at the Viking Stadion after just two minutes. Peter Christiansen added a second goal with 38 minutes on the clock, but Harry Kane reduced the deficit from the penalty spot on 54 minutes.

Kane drew Bayern level on the hour mark and Luis Diaz thought he had won the tie for his team when he netted with 71 minutes played, only for Herman Haugem to pop up with a 90th minute equaliser, as Bayern played the last 16 minutes with 10 men after a dismissal to Michael Olise.

The result left the Bundesliga side in fourth place on the league standings with four points from two games, and the Eliteserien team in 26th place with one point.

Speaking after the game, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany said: "It was entirely our own fault. The second yellow card for Olise was obviously a stupid mistake. We addressed that very clearly as well.

"What's important to me, though, is that I don't see any lack of energy in my team. The players are working hard, and they're mentally switched on, too.

"Nevertheless, we simply cannot afford to make these kinds of mistakes. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to win games, even when you're clearly the better team and have perhaps put in a decent performance over the course of the entire match.

"But when you make individual mistakes like these, which we bring upon ourselves, the final picture naturally looks very different."

Vikings coach Morten Jensen was, meanwhile, emotional after the result.

"I'm in tears. We didn't expect to score in this game, and we ended up getting a draw against one of the best teams in the world. Honestly, I don't even know how to explain what I'm feeling right now," he said.

"I've told my boys they have two days off after this performance. I'm really happy with them. They gave everything on that pitch, and they deserve to enjoy this moment.

"Nobody expected this result, not even the players themselves. It's still like a dream to us. I feel like I'll wake up tomorrow morning and realize none of this actually happened.

"Before the game, people probably thought we were just going there to defend and hope for the best. But my players showed courage, discipline, and a belief that you cannot teach overnight.

"Bayern Munich have world-class players, but tonight, my boys showed that football is not always decided by reputation or money.

"I'm proud of every single one of them. This is a moment we'll remember for the rest of our lives. We came here with a dream, and tonight, we made that dream feel real."
