Kodisang, who returned to South African football in a high-profile move from Portuguese side Moreirense FC, was expected to make a major impact following his signing with the Brazilians ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. However, his debut campaign at Chloorkop has been far from smooth sailing.

The former South African junior international has struggled to nail down a regular starting role, featuring in just 13 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Despite flashes of quality, the 25-year-old has found opportunities hard to come by under both former coach Manqoba Mngqithi and current head coach Miguel Cardoso.

Kodisang's path into the starting XI has been blocked by stiff competition in the attacking ranks, with the likes of Tashreeq Matthews, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Themba Zwane, and Thapelo Maseko all ahead of him in the pecking order.

The limited game time has also dealt a blow to his hopes of breaking into Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana squad, where regular minutes are essential.

Makaab, who represents the skilful winger, says while Kodisang has shown glimpses of his talent when given the chance, he hasn't received a fair opportunity to stake a claim for a more consistent role.

"We are worried about Kobamelo Kodisang and his struggles for game-time because he's a very talented footballer," Makaab was quoted by FARPost.

"I think he hasn't been given a fair chance to compete for his position in the team, but we also understand that the players in his position are performing, and the team has been doing well."

Despite acknowledging the depth and quality within the Sundowns squad, Makaab made it clear that discussions are underway to consider the best way forward for Kodisang's career.

"We're going to look at all the best possible options for his career because, as I said, he's a talented player who should play regular football."

Kodisang's situation will likely be one to watch during the off-season, as both player and agent weigh up potential solutions to reignite his career trajectory - whether at Sundowns or elsewhere.
