Having secured an impressive position with a renowned international agency, Grant Veitch tendered his resignation on January 31, 2025. He started serving his notice in early February, intending to finish it by the month's end before transitioning to his new role.

However, Veitch was taken into custody on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, and appeared in court on Friday.

Veitch faces accusations of fraud linked to the alleged misappropriation of R32,000 from Cape Town City's chairman, John Comitis. He was granted bail set at R5,000 with no conditions, and the state did not oppose the bail.

The case has been postponed for further investigation, with Veitch's legal representatives expected to request the withdrawal of charges at the next court appearance.

Veitch's attorney, Bruce Hendricks, spoke to FARPost, explaining that his client "resigned, and that's when the problems began." Hendricks elaborated, "He was offered an increased salary to remain with the club. Veitch said he needed time to think it over and ultimately turned it down."

Hendricks further commented that Veitch "cannot understand why this is happening." He pointed out that the fraud charge was so vaguely stated that it was unclear when, where, or how the alleged incident occurred.

He also noted the discrepancy in the figures: "The complainant originally mentioned over R100,000, but the charge sheet lists R32,000. I believe his employers set him up," Hendricks asserted.

Hendricks expressed confidence that the charges would eventually be dropped.

"Grant is primarily concerned about his reputation because he knows he's done nothing wrong. He's dedicated to the community and the sport. He finds himself in a challenging situation, but we are certain the charges will be dismissed," Hendricks said.

"Grant will face the charges but is confident of being acquitted. He will continue his work with young players, developing talent, as he has a deep passion for the game."

After his release on bail, Veitch announced his departure from the club via a message posted in one of the club's WhatsApp groups.

"I'm sorry I couldn't say goodbye in person, but I just wanted to take a moment to say how much I've enjoyed working with these talented young men. It's been a true privilege, and I am incredibly proud of each one of them.

"To the parents, thank you for your support and trust. To the players, keep pushing, stay humble, and always believe in yourselves - I'll be rooting for you from afar!

"Wishing all of you the very best, both on and off the pitch."

Cape Town City's chairman, Comitis, stated that the matter was now in the hands of the relevant authorities and declined to make further comments. "Until the process has run its course, we cannot comment," Comitis said.
