The event brought together sponsors, stakeholders, sports administrators, schools, community leaders, media representatives, coaches and participating teams as preparations for this year's tournament moved into full swing.

The launch also included the official draw across all sporting categories, creating excitement and anticipation ahead of what promises to be another memorable edition of the annual festival.

The initiative continues to position itself as more than just a sporting event, serving as a platform for youth empowerment, talent identification, social cohesion and community development through sport. Young athletes will once again have an opportunity to showcase their abilities while commemorating Youth Month through healthy competition and positive engagement.

This year's tournament will feature football and netball competitions across several divisions, including both school and community categories.
Speaking at the launch, Siyabonga Sangweni thanked those who have continued to support the vision behind the tournament.

"I would like to sincerely thank all our stakeholders, sponsors, partners, schools, teams, and the community for standing with us and believing in this vision. This tournament belongs to the people and is here to create opportunities for our youth," said Sangweni, as reported by Sports wire.

The former Orlando Pirates defender also paid tribute to a key figure who influenced his journey.

"I would also like to extend special appreciation to my former principal at eMgezeni High School, Mr Mchunu, who is now the president of the KwaZulu-Natal Sport Confederation. He played a meaningful role in my life and development. Your guidance, support, and belief in me helped shape the person I am today."

Sangweni further highlighted the broader purpose of the festival and the importance of leaving a lasting impact.
"This is bigger than football and netball. It is about inspiring hope, changing lives, and ensuring that the next generation has access to opportunities that we may not have had."

The Siyabonga Sangweni Youth Month Festival 2026 will take place from 24 to 28 June and is expected to deliver five days of competitive sporting action and community celebration, with the Foundation encouraging the public to attend and support local youth.
