Du Preez and Saleng

Both players returned with aplomb to their teams' starting-line ups, each producing a brace of quality finishes following months of criticism from some supporters on social media due to their lack of contribution in the current season.

Du Preez was finding space to run between the defensive pockets and by the time the sleepy Bucs defence awoke, the striker was clear on goal and produced great finishes for both goals.

Saleng on the other hand was very industrious throughout the encounter and managed to find space when defenders were pulled back to focus on tightly marked striker Tshego Mabasa, which led to a lovely equaliser as well as the chipped winner.

Maart tackle on Saleng

Without a doubt, Amakhosi captain Yusuf Maart should have received his marching orders following a potential leg-breaking tackle on Monnapule Saleng, however, Maart got away with a yellow card, further fueling the debate about the introduction to VAR in local football. A 13th-minute Red Card would have probably affected the outcome of the match given the forced change of tactics that would have followed.

Maswanganyi, Mofokeng terrorising the Chiefs defence

Teenager Relebohile Mofokeng put in another good performance as he made sure to keep Reeve Frosler on the back foot for the majority of the first half, with Frosler even being substituted in the second half. The tricky winger combined excellently with Man of the Match Patrick Maswanganyi who seemed to have acres of space during the match and provided the delightful chipped assist for Saleng's winner.

Chiefs counter-attack plan and Mmodi's assists

Amakhosi did allow Pirates the larger share of possession throughout the match, which would then be turned into a swift counter-attacking move once Chiefs gained possession, with both goals coming from this situation, such as when Pule Mmodi produced a precise pass to put Ashley du Preez through on goal. Mmodi has now contributed to seven goals this season [4 goals, 3 assists], only Edson Castillo has a better goal contribution in the team.

Riviero vs Johnson

The two Soweto derby head coaches made a collective number of nine changes to their starting line-ups from their mid-week fixtures. Both coaches achieved success with some of their changes, with both Saleng and Du Preez finding the net as well as derby debutant Thabiso Lebitso setting the stadium into a frenzy with a super strike from outside of the box which left Bruce Bvuma rooted to his spot.

However other players failed to impress with Mduduzi Mdantsane and Reeve Frosler failing to make an impact for Chiefs, which led to both being substituted in the 65th minute with the score already at 3-2.

The Buccaneers will look ahead to their Nedbank Cup Round of 16 clash against Motsepe Championship side Hungry Lions on Saturday, whilst The Glamour Boys will be out of action until only after the upcoming international break.
