The left-back joined from AFC Bournemouth in June 2025 and has quickly become a regular under Arne Slot, making 44 appearances in all competitions this season, including 36 starts.

Liverpool remain in the hunt for a top-four Premier League finish with four games left in the 2025-26 campaign.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Kerkez admitted the early months were a significant adjustment period.

"The first two or three months were a bit tougher in terms of playing style and everything that was new to me," he said. "I needed to adapt physically as well because of the number of games.

"But after that, it gets better and better. I've found my place more now and I can play consistently. I think it has been a growing season for me and for the team."

He added that Liverpool's evolving squad has also taken time to settle.

"Every new player needs time to adapt and understand each other on and off the pitch. But I think the future is bright for this team."

Kerkez has also spoken about what it means to represent the club.

"I want the fans to remember I gave 110 per cent every time I played," he said. "I understand more now what it means to wear this badge and carry that responsibility."

One of the key figures in his development has been fellow left-back Andy Robertson, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season after a highly decorated spell that included Premier League and Champions League success.

Kerkez described him in clear terms: "He really is a legend. Best left-back in the Premier League, I believe that. The energy, the assists, everything he brings is unbelievable."

Despite competing for minutes, Kerkez stressed there has been no tension.

"There's no bad blood. He helped me a lot, gave me advice. I'm younger, and I try to learn from him. I know I have big shoes to fill."

He also paid tribute to Mohamed Salah, who is set to depart after a record-breaking Liverpool career.

"When I was younger, I used to watch him at Liverpool," Kerkez said. "He accepted me really well. We are close – me, him and Dom Szoboszlai. I'm really thankful to him. I'm going to miss him a lot."

The meeting with Aston Villa could be rescheduled if they reach the Europa League final, but for Kerkez and Liverpool, the focus is clear: finish strongly and secure Champions League football for next season.
