"We know there's a lot of competitiveness in the Champions League. If teams get to this stage it means they have something," Inter coach Cristian Chivu said.

"And they have proved that. They showed it against Dortmund, against Madrid, against City, against us twice.

"It's a team which has energy. We could have done better in Norway, we could have done better today, too, but unfortunately it didn't go how we wanted. We gave everything to try to advance, that's football."

Bayer Leverkusen progressed to the Champions League last 16 after a goalless second-leg draw with Olympiakos at the BayArena.

Leading 2-0 from the first leg in Greece six days earlier, Leverkusen advanced comfortably on aggregate.

Despite dominating the return fixture, the hosts failed to score against Olympiakos for the second time in this campaign.

Alejandro Grimaldo struck the crossbar midway through the second half, while Patrik Schick headed wide early on and later failed to lob Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Schick's first-leg double ultimately secured progression for Kasper Hjulmand's side, marking their second last-16 appearance since 2016/17. Olympiakos threatened sporadically, with Chiquinho firing over from the edge of the area.

Leverkusen will face either Arsenal or Bayern Munich in the next round.

"The game and our performance were not good enough. From the 25th-minute onwards, Olympiacos sensed they could make something happen up front," said Hjulmand.

"Our plan wasn't to defend a lot in this game, but we had to and we did it well. We perhaps lacked a little energy, which we now need to recharge."
