Chiefs were forced to dig deep to secure a dramatic 1-1 draw against Egyptian giants Zamalek courtesy of a late goal by Dillan Solomons in their Group D encounter at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Despite the spirited finish, the Soweto giants remain third in the group with just one point from their opening two fixtures.

The match also marked an important moment for Maboe, who was handed his first start in Chiefs colours after three substitute appearances across domestic and continental competitions.

The 31-year-old brought composure and technical sharpness to the midfield, often linking play in tight pockets and driving the team forward with his movement.

Kaze expressed satisfaction with Maboe's contribution but emphasised that his solid performance reflected the collective improvement of the squad.

"We know Maboe's technical qualities — he drives you forward and finds players in tight spaces," Kaze said.

"But what made his performance good was how the whole team worked together. They supported each other, and that elevated his level too."

The coach added that Maboe's inclusion aligns with the broader style Chiefs are trying to implement — one built on confidence, structure and technical progression. Kaze also credited the Polokwane supporters, whose energy lifted the team during the tense closing stages.

"The fans helped us get that point. Their support pushed us, and we are grateful. We promise to continue fighting to make them proud," he said.

Saturday's clash was Chiefs' final Confederation Cup fixture of 2025. Their continental journey resumes on 25 February 2026 with a trip to Zambia to face ZESCO United.

Amakhosi will now shift their focus back to the Betway Premiership with a clash against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 3 December.
