The build-up to Saturday's MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns has been electrifying, with the Moses Mabhida Stadium set to host what promises to be one of the most exciting finals in recent years.

Both teams have dominated the headlines ahead of the highly anticipated showdown, with discussions centred on player availability, injuries and the return of key personnel to full fitness.

These factors make it difficult to predict how Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and Sundowns mentor Miguel Cardoso will set up their respective teams.

With both sides desperate to lift the trophy, individual brilliance could prove decisive in determining the outcome of the encounter.

Ahead of the blockbuster clash, we look at three players from each team who could make a significant difference in the battle for MTN8 glory.

Orlando Pirates

Gamphani Lungu

Lungu has made a valuable contribution to the Buccaneers, particularly in the MTN8 competition, where he has found the back of the net twice.

His attacking threat and ability to make things happen in the final third could prove important for Pirates as they look to overcome Sundowns and retain their title.

Thalente Mbatha

Mbatha's return from injury during the international break is a timely boost for the Buccaneers. The Bafana Bafana midfielder brings energy, composure and authority to the heart of the midfield. His ability to influence games and score crucial goals makes him a player Sundowns will need to monitor closely.

Lebone Seema

Seema has grown into a trusted member of the Pirates defence, earning recognition for his composure and ability to deal with dangerous attacking situations. His progress was further highlighted by his inclusion in the Bafana Bafana squad. However, facing Sundowns' attacking threats will present a stern test of his defensive abilities.

Mamelodi Sundowns

Ronwen Williams

Williams remains one of the country's most dependable goalkeepers, particularly in high-pressure encounters. His shot-stopping ability and experience in decisive matches could prove crucial if Pirates manage to put Sundowns under sustained pressure.

Marcelo Allende

The Chilean midfielder combines creativity, technical ability and an impressive work rate. Allende's capacity to unlock defences and dictate the tempo gives Sundowns another dimension in attack. His influence could be vital if the Brazilians struggle to break down Pirates' defence.

Brayan Leon

Leon's finishing ability makes him a constant threat in the opposition's penalty area. The Colombian striker can punish defensive lapses with his movement and positioning, even when he has had limited involvement in the game. Pirates will need to remain alert to his presence if they are to keep Sundowns at bay.

With quality on both sides, the performances of these six players could go a long way towards deciding who walks away with the MTN8 trophy on Saturday.
