The 41-year-old confirmed his move on Sunday via his official Instagram account, marking his first professional head coaching role. At the unveiling in Botswana, Letsholonyane was accompanied by his long-time friend and ex-teammate, Siphiwe Tshabalala, who offered his support as Yeye embarked on this new chapter.

According to reports, Letsholonyane has signed a two-year deal with the club. He joins Matebele holding a CAF A Coaching Licence, one of the highest coaching qualifications on the continent. His coaching resume includes stints with the AmaZulu FC reserve side, as well as involvement in the technical structures of South Africa's U20 national team and the Bafana Bafana CHAN squad.

Matebele confirmed the appointment on Monday, 1 September 2025, with the club outlining its vision of investing in youth development.

"We are excited to welcome Reneilwe 'Yeye' Letsholonyane as head coach of Matebele FC," read the club's statement.

"Coach Yeye joins the team at a time when our focus as a club is shifting towards younger players. As a club, we have taken a deliberate decision to afford young players a chance to play premier league football from a young age and to amplify recruitment from lower divisions."

The statement further highlighted that Letsholonyane officially began his new role on 30 August 2025.

Letsholonyane's first challenge will be a Botswana Premier League clash against fellow South African coach Owen da Gama, who leads Black Lions. The match is scheduled for Saturday, 13 September 2025, at the Royal Aria Stadium, with kick-off set for 16:00.

In a personal message, Yeye expressed both gratitude and anticipation for his new journey:

"This song describes this journey. It is whatever 'TSO…kong…kong…kong…' means to you. To me, it means the excitement, nerves, and most of all, being grateful. Anyway, Ke le Tebele go tloga janong (loosely translated as I'm part of Matebele FC as of today)."

Matebele currently sit 10th on the Botswana Premier League table with three points from their opening three matches.
