City continued their impressive record against newly promoted sides, while Liverpool capitalised on Brentford's disciplinary problems to claim three valuable points. Both matches delivered late drama, with City extending their winning run and Liverpool climbing above their opponents in the table.

Manchester City 3-2 Ipswich Town: Haaland strikes twice as City stay perfect

Manchester City continued their dominant start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought victory over Ipswich Town, making it seven consecutive league wins.

The atmosphere was hostile before kick-off, with supporters booing the Premier League anthem during City's first home league match since being found guilty of more than 100 alleged financial rule breaches. However, Enzo Maresca's side eventually allowed their football to do the talking.

City initially struggled to establish control, but Ruben Dias tested Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton with a powerful effort before the hosts broke the deadlock.

Jeremy Doku delivered a dangerous cross that Phil Foden converted to give City the lead, but Ipswich responded quickly. Abdoul Ouattara played an excellent ball behind Marc Guehi, allowing Daizen Maeda to race through and slot home the equaliser.

The visitors briefly threatened to take the lead when Emersonn sent an effort narrowly wide, but City soon restored their advantage. Mateo Kovacic supplied the cross, and Erling Haaland rose in the penalty area to head home.

Walton prevented City from extending their lead before half-time, producing another impressive save to deny Dias from distance.

Ipswich continued to search for a way back after the break, with Emersonn and Nico O'Reilly both missing headed opportunities. City, however, remained dangerous and eventually delivered the decisive blow.

Haaland exploited space through the middle of the Ipswich defence before calmly finishing to make it 3-1 and put the result beyond the visitors' reach.

Ipswich earned a late consolation when Zian Flemming converted a penalty, but City held on despite Haaland being denied the opportunity to complete his hat-trick by VAR in the closing stages.

The result extended City's unbeaten Premier League run against newly promoted opposition to 32 matches. Their seventh successive victory also maintained a perfect record at the start of the campaign, a feat achieved by only two teams previously in Premier League history, both of whom went on to win the title.

Brentford 1-2 Liverpool: Reds punish nine-man Bees in comeback victory

Liverpool came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Brentford, with the hosts' indiscipline proving costly as they finished the match with nine men.

The teams began cautiously, with few clear chances during the opening 20 minutes. Brentford gradually grew into the contest, with Michael Kayode going close before Liverpool threatened on the counter-attack.

Bradley Barcola missed a promising one-on-one opportunity after racing through on goal, while Igor Thiago was denied by an important defensive intervention from Jeremy Jacquet.

Liverpool briefly appealed for a penalty when Dango Ouattara challenged Alexis Mac Allister, but VAR confirmed that the Brentford defender had made a clean tackle.

Brentford then took the lead just before half-time. Thiago delivered a well-judged cross, and Keane Lewis-Potter stretched to guide the ball beyond Alisson.

However, the hosts suffered a major setback in stoppage time. Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off after directing his head towards Jacquet during an altercation before a corner, leaving Brentford to face the second half with 10 players.

Liverpool initially struggled to break down a compact Brentford defence, while the hosts remained dangerous on the counter-attack. Thiago was fortunate to escape with a yellow card early in the second half after appearing to catch Jacquet with an elbow.

Mac Allister came close to drawing Liverpool level after weaving past several challenges, but goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher produced an important save.

The pressure eventually told when Victor Munoz cut inside and calmly guided the ball into the corner to restore parity.

Liverpool then took control, and Alexander Isak completed the turnaround by controlling the ball under pressure before finishing past Kelleher to make it 2-1.

Barcola struck the crossbar as Liverpool searched for a third goal, while Thiago missed a good opportunity to equalise from close range.

Brentford's hopes of salvaging a point suffered another blow in stoppage time when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card for stopping a promising Liverpool counter-attack. Having already been booked for dissent, he became the second Brentford player dismissed.

The victory ended Liverpool's wait for a league win against Brentford under their current Spanish coach, following a difficult previous record in the fixture. It also ended Brentford's unbeaten start to the campaign and lifted Liverpool above the Bees in the Premier League standings.
