Since arriving at Chloorkop from Vitoria Guimaraes during the last transfer window, the 26-year-old has quickly demonstrated why the club worked hard to secure his signature.

While Santos is still finding his rhythm in domestic football, with four league appearances and one in the Carling Knockout Cup, he has already exploded onto the continental stage.

The midfielder has three goals and two assists in just three CAF Champions League matches have thrust him into the spotlight and revived optimism around Sundowns’ long-awaited push for another African crown.

For Santos, adapting to a new league, a new environment, and a new football culture is an ongoing process — but one he is navigating with confidence.

“It’s very different, and I’m trying to adapt as fast as I can. I still have to grow, but I think I’m doing pretty well,” Santos was quoted by FARpost.

A major factor behind his quick adjustment has been the familiar voices around him. Working with countryman and head coach Miguel Cardoso, as well as fellow midfielder Miguel Reisinho, has made the transition smoother.

“With a Portuguese coach, it’s easier. He speaks my language and knows how to guide me. That made things much easier,” he explained.

Brazilian striker Arthur Sales, who is fluent in Portuguese, has also played a key role in helping him settle. But ultimately, Santos says he chose Sundowns because of their sheer ambition.

“They welcomed me very well. This is the biggest club in South Africa and one of the biggest in Africa,” he said.

“The club really wanted me. I want to win everything. The focus is always the next game — step by step, we’ll get there.”

Santos will be hoping to continue with his good form in the Champions League when Sundowns take on MC Alger on Friday away from home.
