Tottenham stunned Manchester City with a composed 2–0 win, continuing their remarkable run at the Etihad - a third win in their last five visits.

City manager Pep Guardiola has now lost 10 matches to Spurs, the joint-most against any club in his career. Brennan Johnson's opener came after a confident buildup from the back, and Joao Palhinha sealed it with a press-triggered second.

Spurs' transformation under Thomas Frank is stark - they've already kept two clean sheets this season, one-third of last year's total (six).

Their 59 defensive actions, led by Romero (10) and Palhinha (seven), showed a clear commitment to structure and sacrifice. A clinical, disciplined display that confirms Spurs' new direction.

2. Jack Grealish brings the show to Everton's new stage

Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium debut had its leading man: Jack Grealish.

The Man City loanee dazzled with a man-of-the-match display in the 2–0 win over Brighton, setting up both goals and matching his Premier League assist tally from the last two seasons combined.

Given license to attack down the left, Grealish was Everton's focal point - 52 percent of their attacks came through his flank. He led the team in touches in the opposition box (six), and was second in both dribbles (five) and chances created (three).

Moyes told Grealish to "take people on and be positive" and he delivered - finally looking like the player who lit up City's treble-winning year.

3. Potter's West Ham project under pressure

West Ham's 5–1 defeat to Chelsea - following an opening-day 3-0 humiliation at Sunderland - has raised real alarm bells.

Graham Potter wants his team to play with possession and control, but right now they don't have the players to pull it off. Their press looked disjointed and the midfield was overrun all game.

Chelsea punished the Hammers at set-pieces, scoring three times from balls into the box, while new keeper Mads Hermansen looked shaky throughout.

West Ham were second-best in every area and managed just 11 tackles to Chelsea's 19. With two heavy defeats already and relegation odds now at 7/4, Potter needs to make changes fast - or risk falling even further behind.

Aston Villa's attacking problems deepened in a 1-0 loss at Brentford - their second straight game without scoring - after a drab opening-day 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

Despite 76 percent possession against Brentford and 17 shots, Villa hit the target just twice - their most shots in a Premier League match without a goal since October 2022.

They lacked pace, width, and structure, with too many players out of position and little connection across the pitch.
