England secured top spot in Group L after a 2-0 victory over Panama, with goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane sealing their place in the Round of 32, where they will face Democratic Republic of Congo in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Despite progressing as group winners, England have yet to find their best form during the tournament. Thomas Tuchel’s side produced an exciting 4-2 win over Croatia, followed by a frustrating goalless draw against Ghana before overcoming Panama in a difficult contest.

With England aiming to end a 60-year wait for World Cup success, expectations remain high following their recent tournament record, which includes two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final appearance in 2018.

However, Henderson believes the squad must stay composed and avoid getting distracted by the pressure surrounding their title challenge.

“I think we’re in a good place. It’s just staying calm and staying in the moment, not getting too carried away,” Henderson said.

“Just focus on what we need to do, what each person’s job and role is, and making sure that we’re doing it to the best of our ability. Then helping the team around us, giving absolutely everything for each other.”

The experienced midfielder also made history against Panama by becoming the first England player to feature at four World Cups. The 36-year-old believes his experience can help guide the younger members of the squad during the crucial knockout rounds.

“I’m just delighted to be a part of this team, and it’s still as special now as it was when I made my debut in 2010,” he said.

“Time goes quickly, but I’m just delighted that I can help the team as much as possible, both on and off the field, and just try and give everything I can to help us achieve our dreams.”

England will face a dangerous Democratic Republic of Congo side that has already impressed at the tournament. The African team held Portugal to a draw in their opening match and secured qualification with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan.

Henderson highlighted the threat posed by DR Congo, who have several players with Premier League experience, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Noah Sadiki and Yoane Wissa.

“They got a good result against Portugal. We know Wissa well, a good team with some good players. They are very, very strong,” Henderson said.

“In the knockout rounds, there are no easy games.”
