Amakhosi will be looking to end a six-match winless streak against arch-rivals AmaBhakaniya when the two teams meet for the first time in the 2026/27 campaign.

Chiefs head into the match on the back of three successive draws in the Betway Premiership, while Pirates look to remain unbeaten in the league while extending their six-match winning run.

We highlight five players that could have the biggest impact on the derby.

Tshepang Moremi

The Bafana Bafana winger has been the leading attacker for the Buccaneers this season, leading the club's scoring chart with six goals in ten appearances while providing one assist.

Moremi as stepped up as an experienced player in Bucs frontline since his return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will be full of confidence coming into the derby following his brace in the Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 win against Milford FC.

He has faced Chiefs twice since joining Pirates, scoring once and providing one assist in the first match but limping off injured in the first half of the return clash.

Wandile Duba

Amakhosi striker Wandile Duba has also proven to be the Soweto giants main supply of goals this season, with six goals in his seven appearances in the current campaign.

His hat trick in the previous cup fixture against TS Galaxy has emphasized his importance in the Chiefs line-up after his return from a hip injury.

Duba has faced Pirates on four previous occasions, scoring once while providing one assist with the Glamour Boys winning one of those fixtures.

Thapelo Mokobodi

The 23-year-old has been impressive for AmaBhakaniya, quickly establishing himself as a key factor of head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's starting midfielders following his move from Stellenbosch.

He has already made 13 appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists as the club maintains a six-match winning streak in the Betway Premiership.

Mokobodi will be playing in his first Soweto derby, having previously faced Chiefs in three matches for Stellies, winning all of them.

Rushwin Dortley

The 24-year-old centre-back made assuring display for Chiefs on his return from a long-term injury in the 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in their midweek Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 clash.

His return provides Amakhosi head coach with more quality defensive options following an injury ravaged campaign for his defensive unit ahead of a clash against a free-scoring Pirates side.

Dortley will be featuring in his first derby for the club.

Lebone Seema

Seema has been an ever-present performer in Orlando Pirates squad for the 2026/27 season, leading a stubborn defensive unit that has not conceded in 13 of the 17 matches in all competitions.

The reigning PSL Defender of the Season has proved why he was awarded the accolade with assured displays from the back while also providing a threat with his passing range and during set-pieces.

He will be critical in attempting to contain an in-form Duba when they battle Chiefs on Saturday.
