Haaland scored twice in City's 2-0 victory over FC Porto on Tuesday, taking his Champions League tally to 59 goals in just 59 appearances for Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and City.

The Norwegian now has 36 Champions League goals for City, putting him level with Sergio Aguero as the club's joint record scorer in the competition. His two goals also moved him past Tommy Johnson and into third place on City's all-time scoring list.

Despite those impressive numbers, Haaland believes there is much more to come.

"Not bad - I think if you tell a young Erling Haaland this, he would be very happy," he said.

"I'm really proud of these numbers but I'm only 26 and I'm hungry for more."

Haaland has now scored five goals in five matches this season and was again decisive as City made a winning start to their European campaign.

Porto had won their opening five matches in Portugal and were unbeaten at home in 2026, making City's victory an important result.

"The Champions League is always difficult, especially to play against the champions of their countries' league," Haaland said.

"It's never easy and you need to appreciate every single goal in this competition because this competition is special and I'm super happy to have scored two goals."

Haaland expected a difficult test against a Porto side backed by a passionate home crowd, but City eventually found a way through.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game, and they were going to come fight in an amazing stadium with the fans behind them so well done to them," he said.

"But we managed to fight and to keep the ball. We were good enough so in the end we got the win."

Haaland has also carried his impressive form into the new season after starring for Norway at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where his country reached the quarter-finals.

The striker admitted the tournament had taken a physical and mental toll but said he was focused on moving forward.

"I feel quite good to be honest," he said. "Of course we need a few games to get into the season, and they were not easy because it's a long season, but you have to try to get through it."

"The World Cup was a huge thing, of course physically and mentally and it will take time to digest all these crazy things that happened in the US."

For Haaland, the focus is now firmly on the present as City prepare for their next Premier League challenge against AFC Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

"But it's about taking it day by day, game by game and trying not to think too much and try to look ahead because we can only do things from the present moment, not in the past or future," he said.
