The fans at the Stade de Marrakesh were treated to an end-to-end affair as both teams had chances in the opening salvos. Teboho Mokoena tried his luck from 35 yards out but failed to wrap his foot around the attempt. Then Bafana talisman Ronwen Williams was forced to make two diving saves, one to his left and one to his right, to deny the probing Angolans.

The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute. A long-range cross was briefly controlled by Sipho Mbule before the ball went into Oswin Appollis' path, who was calm in the clutch of defenders and whipped the ball into the bottom corner from 15 yards out for his sixth goal for Bafana.

Williams continued to keep his nation in the game with a brilliant reflex save on his line following a powerful header from midfielder Manuel Keliano.

Angola drew level on the 35-minute mark. Fredy whipped in a low cross from a free kick and Manuel "Show" Cafumana lived up to his moniker to nail an audacious sliding backheel strike to beat Williams at his near post.

In the second stanza, Bafana celebrated when substitute Tshepang Moremi unleashed a pinpoint left-footed screamer into the bottom right-hand corner. But the Video Assistant Referee judged that Lyle Foster had come from an offside position to play the ball in the buildup.

Appollis put Khuliso Mudau into the box with a superlative pass and Mudau went to ground after strong contact, but VAR deemed it fair.

That man Moremi then showed incredible pace on the deep counterattack and found Foster on the cutback, but the striker's effort went sailing over the crossbar. However, minutes later, he struck gold.

The No.9 was in space at the top of the box and received a one-touch pass from Moremi, after which he curled in a beautiful right-footed strike beyond a reaching Marques.

The final 11 minutes were frantic. Bafana kept their high press, which created chances for Angola, but ultimately the defence held out to give coach Hugo Broos a memorable 50th game in charge of the South Africans.
