Romano also noted that Newcastle have withdrawn from negotiations, adding, "Newcastle have now already left talks for Hugo Ekitike, deal considered off at this stage. They now focus on different targets.

"Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg echoed this sentiment, highlighting Ekitike's preference for Anfield. He said on X, "Liverpool have verbally indicated to Eintracht that they are ready to bid for Hugo Ekitike and have made it clear they are prepared to pay more than Newcastle. Eintracht feeling that Ekitike would like to join Liverpool."

French journalist Fabrice Hawkins added further weight, revealing, "Hugo Ekitike and Liverpool reached an agreement over a six-year contract. The player only wants Liverpool. In the last 24 hours, he has rejected Manchester United."

Frankfurt, who secured Ekitike permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 for 16.5 million euros after a successful loan spell, are holding firm with a valuation around 100 million euros, bolstered by the player's contract until 2029.

Liverpool's initial offer was rebuffed, but ongoing talks suggest a deal could be imminent, potentially exceeding Newcastle's rejected 70 million euro bid. The Reds' strong relationship with Frankfurt could prove pivotal as they aim to finalize the transfer before the weekend.
