The 25-year-old left-back made his first official appearance for Amakhosi during their Betway Premiership clash against Richards Bay FC on Tuesday night at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex. However, the occasion ended on a disappointing note as Chiefs suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.

It was a difficult introduction for Shinga, who had to wait eight months to pull on the famous gold-and-black jersey in a competitive match. His debut came at a time when Chiefs are battling through a rough patch, with the defeat extending their losing run to four matches across all competitions.

The latest setback leaves Amakhosi fifth on the league standings, now 11 points behind joint leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, effectively ending their hopes of mounting a serious title challenge this season.

Shinga's night was also complicated by last-minute disruption before kickoff. Captain Inácio Miguel picked up an injury during the warm-up, forcing the technical team to reshuffle the defensive line. With Zitha Kwinika already suspended, Bradley Cross was drafted into a makeshift back four alongside the debutant.

Speaking after the match, Kaze shed light on why the technical team had been patient with the Durban-born defender before introducing him into the squad.

"He is a new player in the country; he's a player that has not played in the PSL before," Kaze was quoted by FarPost.

"So he needs first to train well and get used to the league and to his partners too, but I thought that it was the right moment to introduce him."

Shinga returned to South Africa earlier this season after spending seven years in Europe with Portuguese club FC Alverca. Like teammate Ethan Chislett, he initially had to wait several months before making his debut due to administrative issues and the need to adjust to the demands of the Premier Soccer League.

Unfortunately, Shinga's long-awaited first appearance ended prematurely after he picked up an injury late in the match. The defender was forced off in the 82nd minute.

With Chiefs having already used all their substitutions, Amakhosi were left to complete the closing stages with 10 men.

"I haven't spoken to the medical staff yet. We are going to assess tonight and tomorrow morning to see the extent of the injury," he added.

For Shinga, the focus now shifts to recovery as Chiefs attempt to halt their worrying slump.
