The German champions confirmed on Wednesday that all three players will be sidelined for the timebeing after suffering injuries during the match in Bergamo. The club said Davies tore a muscle in his right thigh, Urbig sustained a concussion and Musiala experienced renewed pain in the ankle he injured last year.

Davies' injury appeared the most distressing moment of the night. The Canada captain had only come on at half-time but was forced off about 20 minutes later after suffering a non-contact injury with Bayern leading 6-0. Clearly upset, Davies squatted on the pitch covering his face with his shirt while teammates shielded him from view before he was helped off the field by staff.

The 25-year-old has endured a difficult run with injuries. He only returned to action in December after tearing an ACL while on international duty in March 2025. The latest setback raises questions over his rhythm heading into the year of the 2026 World Cup, which Canada will co-host with the United States and Mexico.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany attempted to play down the severity of the injury afterwards.

"It's a shame but I told the guys I have full trust in our squad," Kompany said. "We'll have to get through some games without him."

Musiala and Urbig were both injured late in the match. Musiala, who had only recently returned from a lengthy spell out following a broken leg at last year's Club World Cup, limped off in stoppage time after aggravating his ankle. With Bayern having already used all their substitutions, the visitors finished the match with 10 men.

Moments later, Urbig - filling in for injured first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer - collided heavily with Nikola Krstovic during Atalanta's late counterattack that resulted in a consolation goal. The 22-year-old goalkeeper appeared dazed as he left the pitch and was later diagnosed with concussion.

With both Neuer and Urbig unavailable, veteran goalkeeper Sven Ulreich is expected to step in for upcoming matches.

The injuries somewhat dulled what had otherwise been a superb attacking performance from Bayern. Goals from Michael Olise, Nicolas Jackson and Serge Gnabry powered the German side to one of the biggest away wins ever recorded in a Champions League knockout match.

The victory puts Bayern firmly in control ahead of next week's second leg in Munich, although Kompany must now reshuffle his squad as his side balances European ambitions with a commanding lead in the Bundesliga title race.

There was at least one positive update for the coach. Striker Harry Kane, who missed the match with a minor fitness issue, was close to featuring.

"He was very close to starting," Kompany said, "but when it was already 5-0, he was very far away."
