Just six points separate the two sides in what has become a compelling three-way battle at the summit.

Sundowns returned to the top of the standings in midweek thanks to a gritty 1-0 win away to AmaZulu. That result lifted Miguel Cardoso's side level on points with Orlando Pirates, though the Brazilians hold the advantage on goals scored, with both teams boasting an identical +19 goal difference.

Sekhukhune, meanwhile, have quietly positioned themselves as genuine contenders. Babina Noko sit third on 32 points from 18 matches and know that a victory in Tshwane would significantly narrow the gap at the top.

While Sundowns are chasing a record ninth successive league crown, Eric Tinkler's men are aiming to improve on back-to-back fourth-place finishes and mount a serious push for a medal position.

Sundowns' season has featured the usual blend of domestic control and continental ambition. They progressed to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals but exited the Nedbank Cup after heavily rotating in a 2-0 defeat to TS Galaxy.

However, league form remains strong. The Brazilians have won six of their last 12 matches in all competitions and responded to cup disappointment with a dominant display against AmaZulu, registering 29 shots in a narrow but deserved 1-0 victory.

Sekhukhune endured a mid-season dip, collecting just seven points from nine league outings at one stage. But they have since rediscovered rhythm, winning four straight matches across the Premiership and Nedbank Cup. Recent victories over TS Galaxy, Orbit College and the University of Pretoria have restored confidence, while they also managed an important draw against Pirates.

Notably, Sekhukhune have been impressive travellers this season, collecting 16 points from eight away fixtures.

Sundowns have no suspension concerns but are dealing with several injuries. Defenders Mothobi Mvala, Keanu Cupido and Zuko Mdunyelwa remain sidelined, while midfielders Bathusi Aubaas and Thapelo Morena are also unavailable. Attackers Monnapule Saleng and Arthur Sales miss out as well.

Cardoso could recall Nuno Santos and Marcelo Allende to freshen up the starting XI.

Sekhukhune will be without suspended forward Lehlohonolo Mojela, while Tsepo Matsimbi and Linda Mntambo are unavailable. Veteran striker Bradley Grobler is expected to lead the line, with Bright Ndlovu returning in defence.
