While Sukazi's side secured their final place with a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Milford FC, the citizens edged Casric Stars 1-0.

The Rockets are 2019 winners of the lucrative competition, beating Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, with Zakhele Lepasa the match-winner with his 92nd-minute penalty.

This is actually Galaxy's third cup final after they lost to Stellenbosch on penalties in the 2023 Carling Knockout.

But they have already lost twice to Durban City this season, and speaking ahead of the game, Sukazi explained that their opponents are the clear favourites with his team currently on a nine-match winless run in the Betway Premiership.

"As young as we are, we are on our third final. You know that it's not easy to reach a cup final," Sukazi told Soccer Laduma.

"We've done it before, but we are going there as underdogs. We are playing a Durban City side that was Maritzburg (United).

"It's the same. All that's changed is the frame, but the picture remains the same. It's a club that has always been our nemesis. Last year, as Durban City, they eliminated us from the Nedbank Cup.

"This season, they have beaten us both home and away, so they have an upper hand over us. They are favourites in my opinion, which makes it a very tricky assignment for us. We will give it our best shot.

Reflecing on their poor league form, the chairman added: "It's played a role in this way. We have about 22 players in our squad that are eligible for selection, including goalkeepers.

"Another factor is that, while we were on this run, we had a gruesome semi-final that dragged us into extra-time. Two days later, we had to play Polokwane City who were fresh. And then a few days later, we had to play Kaizer Chiefs who were fresh and we had players out on suspensions.

“So winning league matches becomes very difficult.”
