The 28-year-old Spanish international recently completed a high-profile switch from Chelsea, bringing an end to a productive four-year spell in the Premier League. He made 163 appearances for the Blues, helping them lift the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025.

Speaking to Real Madrid TV after his first training session, Cucurella revealed his enthusiasm at working with Mourinho, who has previously managed Chelsea and Manchester United. The full-back said he had already noticed the Portuguese coach's impact on the squad during their opening sessions together.

Although Cucurella came through Barcelona's La Masia academy, Madrid's appeal proved impossible to resist. He described the 15-time European champions as "Europe's biggest club" and regards the opportunity to be part of Mourinho's project as a key factor behind his decision.

Having also played for Getafe and Eibar, Cucurella sees the move as recognition of his career-long efforts. He now joins Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries as part of Madrid's ambitious recruitment drive.

Asked what Mourinho brings to the club, he said: "A lot of confidence and naturalness. We have to do what we know out on the field, and above all, enjoy ourselves. I think what we all want is to win and to have a great year."

"As a kid starting out playing football, then having the opportunity to play for a club like this, it's very hard to turn down," Cucurella continued.

"When the opportunity came, I didn't hesitate for a second. As a spectator, I've seen all those magical nights, those comebacks at the Bernabeu, all the Champions League titles they've lifted.

"Having the chance to experience it first-hand and be a part of it is a huge responsibility, but also a very beautiful and important challenge."

He added: "It's an honour - not many people can say they've worn this jersey. We've seen great legends here, it's a club with a lot of history, the biggest in Europe. Being here today is a privilege, an honour, and above all, a reward for all the effort I've put into my career."
