The Brazilians historically defeated Zamelek 3-1 over two legs to be crowned African Champions almost 10 years ago, having previously lost 4-1 to this weekend's opponents, Al Ahly, in the 2001 final.

Sundowns also head into this second leg at the Cairo International Stadium with a slight advantage, having held their more illustrious opponents to a goalless draw in the first leg.

Away goals could be the deciding factor if there is a score draw, but Downs will have to be wary against a team with 12 Champions League titles.

Speaking after holding the Egyptian giants at home, the Brazilians boss explained that he is confident of a result on the road.

He said in the Sowetan: "I still believe we can beat Al Ahly because we didn't lose to them in this match. There is a lot to be played for still and we can do that out of belief and capacity for what we can put on the pitch.

"We are going there expecting a different match. Whoever goes through, the other team will not be happy.

"But whoever goes through will be strong because these are the two best teams in Africa. One will suffer in the end, but I hope we can be strong enough to cope."

Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller though expects his team to reach another final, despite losing to another South African team, in Orlando Pirates, in the group stages.

“It is very important not to talk about the past too much. Sundowns is not Orlando, and vice versa,” he said.

"Orlando's victory over us in the group stage match was due to special circumstances. There was an own goal, and another goal was not counted for us because there was no VAR to review Rami Rabia’s play.

"We are very well prepared for the match. In the first leg, neither team was able to score, so we expect the match to be very intense. However, we will play at home in front of our fans, who will fill the stands."
