The 23-year-old striker became Newcastle's club-record signing on 30 August in a deal worth around 69 million pounds, ending weeks of speculation over his future.

Stuttgart had rejected a 60 million euro offer from Bayern, who had hoped to lure one of Germany's brightest young talents to the Allianz Arena.

Speaking to Bild, Woltemade admitted Bayern made a serious effort to convince him. "Uli Hoeness is a very well-known person. The conversations with him were pleasant, and he gave me a really good feeling," he said.

"But now I'm happy to be in Newcastle. In the end, everything happened quite quickly."

Hoeness, who won three European Cups as a player and later transformed Bayern during his 30 years as general manager, was drafted in to spearhead the club's push for Woltemade. His involvement underlined how much the Bundesliga champions wanted the deal.

However, Bayern's frustration has been compounded after also missing out on Florian Wirtz, who joined Liverpool earlier this summer.

Hoeness later aimed a dig at Newcastle's spending, claiming: "We offered 60 million for Nick, Stuttgart wanted 75, and in the end he went to Newcastle for 90. What Newcastle are doing has nothing to do with football. It's like Monopoly these days."

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, meanwhile, believes Woltemade's main test will be adapting to the Premier League's physical demands. "I think Nick has made a strong start and will improve as he gets fitter," Howe said. "The Premier League is relentless physically, so we're managing his minutes carefully.

"Once he is fully up to speed, I think we'll see an even better player."

Woltemade's choice to reject Bayern for Newcastle marks a major shift, with the Magpies showing they can now compete with Europe's biggest clubs in the transfer market.
