Morocco, ranked 11th in the world and Africa's top team, are overwhelming favourites to progress at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. Yet Regragui stressed that past complacency has cost his side, reminding players and staff that the nation has not lifted the AFCON trophy in 50 years.

"Everyone says if Morocco doesn't win, it will be a failure, and if we don't win easily, it is a failure," Regragui told reporters on Saturday. "My job is to keep everyone's feet on the ground and remember why we have not won the Cup of Nations for so long. This has to be the AFCON of humility."

The Moroccan squad, fresh from a 2022 World Cup semi-final appearance, enters the knockout stage under immense pressure to capitalize on home advantage. While the Atlas Lions are expected to dominate, Regragui insisted that Tanzania should not be underestimated.

"We will respect this Tanzanian team," he said. "They are growing, developing their league with two major clubs, and bringing through talented young players. It won't be an easy match, and we must ensure there is no chance for an upset."

Tanzania, ranked 112th in the world, reached the last 16 for the first time as one of the best third-placed teams. Despite having never won a game at the AFCON and earning just two points in the group stage, the Taifa Stars remain motivated to challenge the hosts.

Argentinian coach Miguel Angel Gamondi believes his team can make an impact despite the daunting task ahead. "It is so beautiful to play against the host country in a sold-out stadium," he said. "The players are motivated to give their best and get a result." Gamondi, who has spent much of his career in Morocco and across Africa, noted that understanding the Moroccan style could provide his side with a slight edge.

Veteran striker Ally Samatta, likely playing his final AFCON at age 33, highlighted the importance of Tanzanian fan support. "Tanzania is a country of football. We want to be a great nation not only in Africa but across the globe. It is something we are proud of," he said.

Sunday's encounter is expected to draw nearly 68,000 fans, creating an intimidating atmosphere for the visitors. While Morocco start as favourites, both coaches acknowledge that knockout football can be unpredictable. For Regragui, the key is keeping the team focused, disciplined, and humble in front of their home crowd.
